Where do we start?

From what I can work out, from the family tree and the pencil note on the back of this photograph, namely...
"Herbs father & Family Australia"We're looking at Thomas John Pettit (my first cousin twice removed) and his family. So, with that in mind, one of the four ladies may be his wife, Violet Mary Pettit (nee Pool) and one their son John Herbert Pettit (Herb)
Any ideas?

Now this one looks like it could be Eliza Pettit (nee Birch) & husband John Pettit.

Who are the other seven? I'm fairly sure it's Ethel Veal (see the last but one blog post) on the right of the picture.
