55 Pages, 4284 words and I've only just started...

Yes Issue: 2 of the Family Archive is available for you to...

• look at
• correct errors (just write a comment; please add your name at the end of the comment otherwise I won't know who to thank).
• add missing information.
• provide any other constructive feedback.

This whole process is, for me, incredibly engaging and challenging. I'm also having to rethink the whole project as I progress.
For you, dear friends and family, it may appear as if I'm making good progress; that couldn't be further from the truth. Lynn gave me two carrier bags full of documents, photographs and more. I'm removing the items I've covered so far and they are still full.

Next step:

Because there is so much, I think I'm going to have to spend some time, before I continue, breaking down what I've done already, into Separate Family Publications. e.g.

• Dalziel Archive
• Pettit Archive (1700 to...)
• Hockey Archive
• Arbon/Last Archive
• Keen Archive
• Ulph Archive

...you get the idea - suggestions for names of the separate documents are welcome.
I feel that way...

• the tools I'm using will cope
• finding things may be easier
• I may be able to progress quicker.

As a result, you may not see much for a few days/weeks, while I get sorted.

Where do they fit the Family Tree?

These photographs, I'm sure, came from Bessie and I can remember sitting with her, at Mum's house on Gallows Hill, going through these very pictures with her.
I can place quite a few of the seven people posted today but have no idea where some fit the Family Tree.
It's very much her side of the Family Tree.
Let's go through them...

The question is, was he an Arbon or a Last? How does he fit the Family Tree?

I've no problem with placing Uncle Alf in the Family Tree but, it would be nice to know which regiment etc. he was with. Any ideas?

So where does Cousin Arthur and his wife Sylvia, (see below), fit the Family Tree? Who were their parents and/or did they have children?

The writing on this makes it quite clear who my Aunt Emma Forder is and where she fits in the Family Tree; it also makes it clear that the next two are her sons. Any additional information welcome...

From what I can work out, from the family tree and the pencil note on the back of this photograph, namely...

"Herbs father & Family Australia"

We're looking at Thomas John Pettit (my first cousin twice removed) and his family. So, with that in mind, one of the four ladies may be his wife, Violet Mary Pettit (nee Pool) and one their son John Herbert Pettit (Herb)

Any ideas?

Going back quite a long way...

Just 3 pictures with this post and, as always I'd like family & friends of family to provide...

Lets start with the oldest...

I'm fairly confident that this is my Great, Great Grandma Eliza Pettit (nee Birch); born October 12th 1838 and Died March 9th 1923 (84 years old)

Here she is again with one of her sons, Ernest Albert Pettit, born on 13th August 1864. He was married to Anne (nee Chollis). He was my Great Great Uncle.

This is one of Great, Great Grandma Eliza Pettit's daughters; Ethel Veal (nee Pettit my Great, Great Aunt). She was married to Bert Veal and they had a son, Teddy Veal.

It was nice to chat with Melanie last night and to see that see was interested in this project. I'm sure she will contribute when we get to the pictures from her lifetime.

Two large bags - dipped in and out - photographs creased, torn, faded, and more - who is that? - I know the face but...
It's no use, I have to start somewhere and this is the first few photographs; collages put together using Diptic and cropped, enhanced etc., where ever I can.

How many can you name?

I was going to say who I think they are but, that may influence your view on who-is-who.It's the top left picture and Bessy & Hub's Wedding photograph that has some faces I can't place. Uncle Ol, Uncle Postle etc., no problem but to be fair it was December 10th 1925 - a tad before my birth!
To help I've numbered the next picture.
